September 2014 - Lake Wylie events and activities

Weekends - Take a zipline tour over the Catawba River.  High flying adventure takes you through the treetops for a unique, and thrilling perspective.    Camp Canaan Zipline Canopy Tour  .

Weekends April - September  - Kayak, tube or canoe down the Catawba River.  Self guided tours, with shuttle service by  Catawba River Expeditions  . 

Every Wednesday 6:30pm, June thru August  - Summer Sailboat events,  Catawba Yacht Club  .  Watch from the lake or from the shorelines, or bring your sailboat and join in the fun!

Sunday's  - Visit the   Museum of York County   for free on Sunday's!  African animal exhibit, plus planetarium and river exhibits.

Thursdays and Saturdays:    US National Whitewater Center   in Charlotte presents "River Jam", live music performed regularly during the summer months.  Every Thursday 7-10pm. See website for schedule and bands performing.

9/1 – 9/28  - Be sure to schedule a trip to the   Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden  to see the ZimSculpt exhibit.  Over 100 sculptures from the culture of southern Africa.

8/29 - 9/1 Labor Day Weekend  - Take a little road trip from Lake Wylie to Hendersonville, NC for the annual   NC Apple Festival  , held on Labor Day Weekend.  Entertainment, parade, street dance, and more.

8/29 Friday - 9/ Monday -  Not too far from Lake Wylie on Labor Day weekend,  Matthews Alive!    Festival celebrating Labor Day with food, music, family activities all weekend long.  Labor Day Parade at 10am on Saturday.

9/1 Monday  -  Have your own Labor Day on Lake Wylie picnic at McDowell Nature Center With miles of walking trails, lakeside picnic tables, and a nature center, it's a great place to spend the day.

9/1 Monday 10am  -  Annual Charlotte Labor Day Parade in uptown Charlotte, 10am.  Largest Labor Day parade in the Southeastern U.S.! Begins at the Pearl Street Park and ends at Marshall Park.  Visit the Epicenter while in town.

9/4 Thursday  -   Allison Creek Bluegrass  , first and third Thursday of each month, corner of Hands Mill Road and Allison Creek Road.  Different bands are featured each night, along with open jam sessions.  Food is available beginning 6:30pm.

Saturday 9/6:  Banff Radical Reels Tour at the  US National Whitewater Center   in Charlotte.  Great adventure on the big screen.

9/6 Saturday 9-5pm  -  The   Town of Clover   hosts the second annual Butts and Bluegrass festival,, 256 Community Park Drive in Clover. 

9/11 Thursday 8pm – Come see Alison Brown in concert at the Clover School District Auditorium .  Winner of the Canadian National Banjo Championship, a banjo virtuoso who plays a variety of Jazz, Bluegrass, Latin and folk music.

9/11 Thursday – Last of the summer concert series at  Ann Springs Close Greenway   in Fort Mill.  Bring the family, a blanket and a picnic!  

9/12 Friday 7pm-10pm  - Friday Night Live, “Summer of Shag”!  Final event of the season.  Live music, food & drink, sponsored by Belmont merchants.  Fireworks show at 10pm.  See   Belmont Parks and Recreation .

9/12 Friday 7pm-10pm  - Friday Night Live!  Every other Friday night thru the summer.  Celebrate The Summer of Shag.  Live music, food & drink, sponsored by Belmont merchants.  See   Belmont Parks and Recreation /

9/12 Friday  -  "Scarowinds" opens at   Carowinds  .   The annual Halloween fest at Carowinds.  Not for the faint of heart . . .  select nights thru 11/01.

9/13 Saturday 6pm - Lake Wylie Luau , sponsored by The Rotary Club of Lake Wylie.  Featuring delicious food from Q2U, music and dancing, silent auction, and lots of door prizes.  

9/13 Saturday 8am - C2 Survival race  at Camp Thunderbird!  Fun and challenging obstacle race and activities for the whole family, sponsored by the Steele Creek YMCA.

9/14 Sunday 2-7pm - River Hills Lions Club  Fish Fry, Camp Thunderbird Dining Hall.  Dine in or take out, support the Lions Charities.

9/18 Thursday  -   Allison Creek Bluegrass  , first and third Thursday of each month, corner of Hands Mill Road and Allison Creek Road.  Different bands are featured each night, along with open jam sessions.  Food is available beginning 6:30pm.

9/19-20 Friday & Saturday – Fiddle Pig and Shindig, regional bluegrass and barbecue at the   Ann Springs Close Greenway   in Fort Mill.  Bring the family, a blanket and a hearty appetite!  

9/20 Saturday 9-4pm  -  The   Town of Clover   presents the Auto Show and Fall Festival.  Live music, inflatables, food, games, and fun for the family. 

9/20 Saturday    - Christian Music Day at   Carowinds  .  See some of your favorite contemporary Christian music groups perform live! 

9/26 Friday 5:30-9pm  - "The Bug Ball" at the   Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden  .  An evening of family fun, this annual fundraiser includes creative games and activities, dancers, special foods and drinks.

Saturday 9/27:  “Uncorked”, wine festival at the  US National Whitewater Center   in Charlotte.  Wine tastings and bottles available for purchase.  Live music throughout the evening.

9/27 Saturday 8:54am – Family Hike Day at Ann Springs Close Greenway   in Fort Mill.  Bring the family to enjoy the beautiful outdoors!  

 

October 2014 - Lake Wylie events and activities

10/7 Tuesday 8pm – Jaimee Paul and her Jazz combo in concert at the Clover School District Auditorium .  You’ll be transported to a 1940’s Jazz club enjoying tributes to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, and others.

Saturday 10/11:  Enjoy the Fall Finale at the  US National Whitewater Center   in Charlotte.  Dynomite Bouldering Competition, Dirty Dozen Obstacle Course, live music and oyster during this all day festival.

Saturday 10/11: Wylie's Wicked Wakefest , wakeboard competition hosted by Charlotte Ski Boats.

10/18 Saturday  - Experience the magic at the   Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden  .  “Lost Hollow,” the garden designed for the young and young at heart opens for you to explore.

10/18 Saturday 10am-4pm -   Belmont Fall Festival Stowe Park  , Belmont.  Arts & crafts, food, inflatables & games, entertainment.

10/25 Saturday 5pm -   Belmont's Halloween Bash at Stowe Park   in Belmont.  Arts & crafts, food, inflatables & games, entertainment.

November 2014 - Lake Wylie events and activities

11/3 Monday 7pm – Bring the whole family to the Clover School District Auditorium for Foilbles, Fables, and Other Imaskinations.  Comedy, circus arts, storytelling, and clowing around.

Saturday 11/8:  Looking for a great deal on a kayak, bike, or stand-up paddleboard?    US National Whitewater Center   in Charlotte liquidates its used equipment to replace with new.  Check out the sale, then take a ride down the whitewater course.

11/8 Tuesday 8pm – Prepare to be amazed at the Clover School District Auditorium with The Spencers: Theatre of Illusion.  High tech stage show combining drama, comedy, romance and suspense with elaborate illusions sure to dazzle.

2/19 Thursday 8pm – The Londen based Swingle Singers, legendary a cappella group, perform at the Clover School District Auditorium .  International talent, right here in 29710.

3/26 Thursday 8pm – Listen to the captivating music of Shana Tucker, a singer/songwriter and distinctive cellist at the Clover School District Auditorium .  Jazz influenced contemporary folk, sultry and soulful.     

4/7 Tuesday 8pm – Wrap up the Performing Arts Series with the final performance of the season at the Clover School District Auditorium .  “Live From Nashville,” produced by the top rated shows in Myrtle Beach, Pigeon Forge, and Branson.  You’ll be tapping your toes and reliving the musical moments that gave Music City its name.
