March 2014 - Lake Wylie events and activities

3/1 thru 4/19 Fridays and Saturdays - Broadway style dinner theater performance of "Lord of Light", by Narroway Productions in Fort Mill.  An Easter spectacular.  See website for ticket information and show schedule.

3/1 -3/23 - Annual "Orchid Spectacular" will open with the Piedmont Orchid Society's annual show on January 25.  It will continue thru mid-March with classes, displays, and sale at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

3/1 Saturday - 3/2 Sunday - Southern Spring Home & Garden Show - Everything you need for home and garden in one place.  Shop for ideas, consult experts, see the latest in home innovation, decorating, building and home improvement. Held at The Park (formerly Charlotte Merchandise Mart.)

3/1 Saturday 10am - The first Saturday of every month March - June, Sept and October, bring the family out to watch an open horse show at the Gaston Farm Road Equestrian Center.  Concessions available.

3/6 Thursday - Allison Creek Bluegrass, first and third Thursday of each month, corner of Hands Mill Road and Allison Creek Road.  Different bands are featured each night, along with open jam sessions. Carolina Bluegrass Association recognition evening; begins at 5pm.

3/14 Friday 7:30pm - Big Ray & the Cool Cats, a sizzling brass and vocal ensemble playing at the Community Performance Center on Rock Hill's Main Street.  Presented by the York County Art Council.  Visit website for ticket information.

3/20 Thursday - Allison Creek Bluegrass, first and third Thursday of each month, corner of Hands Mill Road and Allison Creek Road.  Different bands are featured each night, along with open jam sessions. Carolina Bluegrass Association recognition evening; begins at 5pm.

3/17 Monday - St. Patrick's Day festival on Rock Hill's Main Street.  Celtic dancers, music, food and fun for the whole family.  Only in Old Town, Rock Hill.

3/27 Tuesday 8pm - Clover School District Auditorium Performing Arts Series presents Kathy Mattea, a Grammy Award winning artist who blends country, bluegrass, gospel and Appalachian style music.  It will be a show to remember!

3/29 Saturday - Opening day at Carowinds.  The "Intimidator", a $23 million roller coaster that plunges 211 feet at a speed exceeding 75mph continues its wild ride at Carowinds. Hang on to your hats!

5/10 Saturday - Rachel Todd graduates from College of Charleston.  Daugher of marketing consultant and Deep Creek photography owner Jan Todd, and her husband Tony Todd, celebrate this accomplishment along with the proud parents!

3/7 Thursday - Allison Creek Bluegrass, first and third Thursday of each month, corner of Hands Mill Road and Allison Creek Road.  Different bands are featured each night, along with open jam sessions.  Food is available beginning 6:30pm.

3/9 Friday 7:30pm - The Artsy Affair in downtown Rock Hill, the fundraising event for the York County Arts Council.  Music, a scavenger hunt, silent auction and more, held at the City Club.

3/13 Wednesday 6pm: US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte presents "Zip LIne and Dine", a zipline excursion followed by a campfire dinner with craft beer and wine.  Register online.

3/14 Thursday 5:30pm - 7:30pm - Attend Lake Wylie Business After Hours. Networking and socializing with business people of Lake Wylie.  Held at Clover Community Bank.  Dress in green for St. Patrick's Day!.

3/15 Friday 8pm - The Sylvia Theater in York presents Blue Dogs Acoustic, performing their annual spring show.

3/16 Saturday 1pm: US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte presents "Green River Revival", with live band.  The river will turn green in the afternoon in celebration of St. Patrick's Day!

3/16 Saturday 10-4pm - St. Patrick's Day festival in downtown Clover!  Competitions, music, and  family fun.  Sure to see a Shamrock or two!

3/17 Sunday - Check out The Leprechaun Trek at the Schiele Museum to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Gastonia. 

3/17 Saturday 11am - Charlotte's 15th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, stepping off at Tryon and 9th Street in uptown Charlotte. Festival located on South Tryon, 10am - 6:30pm with Irish music, dancing, food & vendors.

4/19 Thursday - Business After Hours, a Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce event open to all business people, held at the Lake Wylie Professional Center, Nautical Drive in Lake Wylie.

4/21 Saturday 11am-5pm: Annual Fam Jam in Fort Mill, a health and wellness fair for the whole family.  Held infront of the Complete Wellness Office, 1520 Onyx Ridge, with proceeds going to the Children's Attention Home in Rock Hill.

4/21 Saturday - Earth Day celebration at the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill with bluegrass bands, guided hikes, petting zoo, and lots of free fun for the family.

4/22 : US National Whitewater Center presents "Kindermourn", with yellow ducky race down the river.  Thousands of plastic ducks released in this fundraiser. 

4/28 Saturday - Earth Day Birthday at the Museum of York County with games, activities, and exhibits.

4/28 Saturday 8am - 1pm - The Herald's Yard Sale, annual "World's Largest Yard Sale."  Do you suppose that's true?  Regardless, it's a lot of stuff, 132 W Main St. in Rock Hill.

4/28 Saturday 10am - 7pm - Not too far up the road in Mineral Springs, NC (at the border of Waxhaw) is the annual Queen's Cup Steeplechase.  With six steeplechse races, plus a Jack Russell Terrier race, pony rides, hat contest, and tailgate contest.  Proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish foundation

2/1 -3/23 - Annual "Orchid Spectacular" will open with the Piedmont Orchid Society's annual show on January 25.  It will continue thru mid-March with classes, displays, and sale at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

2/6 Thursday - Allison Creek Bluegrass, first and third Thursday of each month, corner of Hands Mill Road and Allison Creek Road.  Different bands are featured each night, along with open jam sessions. Carolina Bluegrass Association recognition evening; begins at 5pm.

2/7 Friday - Annual Daddy/Daughter dance at McBride Hall.  Girls age 4-12 and their Dad's at a Masquerade Ball.  Only in Old Town, Rock Hill.

2/7 - 2/16 - Rock Hill Community Theatre presents "She Loves Me", a romantic comedy. See website for schedule and ticket information.

2/6-9 - It's time for the Mid-Atlantic Boat Show at the Charlotte Convention Center.  For 41 years, this has been the place to start the boating season.  Don't miss it!

2/11 all day - Prepare for snow and wintery weather.  Go to store.  Buy milk and bread.  Get some propane for the grill.  Do it all with a with a sense of urgency.  Rent some movies.  We might be stuck inside for HOURS.
